Welcome! The Aneurisimo has been born. This new newsletter is primarily geared to provide regular updates to the large community of investigators who are currently contributing or who have previously contributed to the research accomplishments of the Aortic Aneurysm Research Laboratories at Washington University.
While the limelight has mostly eluded aortic aneurysm disease, advances are being made. One example is the routine screening for the disease that has now become part of the standard physical exam for certain individuals joining Medicare. The past 15-20 years have seen the field of aneurysm research develop into a more defined discipline. It is a complex disease, and its development has long been misunderstood, limiting progress in developing specific therapies. Studies at the AARL at Washington University have been central to the current knowledge base of AAA. All of you have significantly participated in the advances generated at this lab. On an occasional basis (probably annual), we want to provide you with updates of the laboratory activities and the effects of your investigations on the field of aneurysm research and on the treatment of AAA.
We also want to use this new mechanism to keep up with all of you. This is a great group of people, and many of you have made connections in the laboratory. There is a large “Diaspora” of investigators who have gone on to a diversity of careers. (Some even in AAA research!) The new Aneurisimo will provide us with a means to keep everyone appraised of your current status. We’re all interested in your professional activities as well as the big social events (babies, etc.) so that we all can revel in your accomplishments.
